Kevin Swift
I am a professional freelance photographer based in the Scottish Highlands but available to work worldwide.
I was born in Glasgow and studied photography at Glasgow College of Building and Printing in the 1990s. I completed my studies and was awarded with a Higher National Diploma in Photography and Audio Visual Production. In my final year of my HND, I specialised in illustrative photography which included press, photojournalism, sport and also advertising and commercial work.
Latterly I have studied part-time with the Open College of the Arts (part of the University for the Creative Arts) and was awarded a BA (Hons) in Photography by the University for the Creative Arts.
My main passion is portraiture with a particular interest in the arts. I have been fortunate to photograph many creative people UK-wide. This has led to a personal project in the Lochaber area of the highlands. Although an ongoing project, I was granted an exhibition at Resipole Studio in 2020.
In my portraiture, I endeavor to create a connection between subject and viewer. Conveying the personality and character of each subject as an individual in an open and honest way. In my environmental portraiture, I want the viewer to have an understanding of the subject, their environment and how that shapes the individual as a person and, in the case of creative people, their work.
I have been fortunate to photograph many creative people within the Scottish arts. Scottish theatre and film have been passionate subjects for me. I have photographed individual actors and musicians, including Siobhan Redmond MBE, Iain Glen, Douglas Henshall, Peter Mullan, Jennifer Black, Eileen McCallum and many others. I have also taken rehearsal photographs and production photographs including "The Trick is To Keep Breathing" (Tron Theatre) , Macbeth (Tron Theatre) and "Staging The Nation" (National Theatre of Scotland at the Tron Theatre).
I was kindly given permission to photograph on set of the film "Orphans" in order for me to gain experience of movie stills work.
Whilst a photography student I was given access to artists performing at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. I photographed Bob Hope, The Everly Brothers, Crystal Gayle, World Party, Aimee Mann and others. I also photographed at the annual "Celtic Connections" music festival.
When Mother Theresa visited Edinburgh in the 1990`s I took some press photographs for a religious publication also.
